About This Festival
The most prestigious film festival in the
world. The Palme d'Or is cinema's highest
honour. Cannes selects by invitation for
the main competition — you cannot submit
directly. The Un Certain Regard and Directors
Fortnight sections are more accessible to
emerging filmmakers.
What They Want
Cannes values formal ambition, auteur
vision, and films that advance the language
of cinema. They are drawn to established
filmmakers with new work and emerging
filmmakers with extraordinarily bold debuts.
Commercial considerations are secondary to
artistic vision at the highest level.
